What is NGSS Chemistry?
The Chemistry in the Earth System is a college preparatory, lab science class aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. In this class, students deepen their understanding of chemistry core ideas, building off of their experiences and prior knowledge. NGSS performance expectations are used to blend core ideas with scientific and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts, which are usable knowledge that can be applied across the science disciplines. What is AP Chemistry?
AP Chemistry is a college-level course where you will complete 2 semesters of college Chemistry by the middle of Spring. The College Board has AP Chemistry as a 2nd year course, and most other schools around the world offer a first year Chemistry course before AP Chemistry. However, students at West Ranch take this course as a first year course, and are expected to take the AP exam in the Spring. Therefore, they are expected to cover more material in a shorter amount of time. In short, you will be covering 2 years of Chemistry in only 7 months.

Who is Mrs. Z?
I truly love Chemistry and I am excited to share my passion for the subject with my students! This will be my 25th year teaching! I want to inspire students to go in to a science bound field in college. I have taught all levels of Chemistry. I have three beautiful children and a crazy Old English Sheep dog named Bella. My oldest is attending Cal Lutheran University in the fall for college. My husband served in the Marines so we are a very patriotic family. My husband and I both do obstacle course racing and I have completed 19+ Spartan races with him and our team. I look forward to sharing my love of Chemistry with my students.
